Description

The black box is the artist’s inspiration of his work with abused and neglected children. The abandoned black box in the open environment mimics the state of emotions of an abandoned child that is filled with anger, fear, anxiety, helplessness, disgust, shame, grief and loss. The harsh environment further adds emotional and physical hurt to the already fragile heart of a child. In an art therapeutic setting, the psychodynamic theories of attunement and containment supported by a safe environment provides an appropriate response for the black box to open up to the art therapist’s call. It is thought that in all of us, there lies an entrenched black box that could be seeking out for help. Until it is opened, anything that is black remains black.
